Champions League Predictions: Part 2

Part 1 of match day six of the UEFA Champions League kicked off today as the final round of fixtures for Groups A-D were played. On Wednesday, December 10th, Groups E-H will play their final rounds, and we will see 8 more teams qualify for the next round. Predictions of groups E-H are next brought to you by the AOSN:

Group E:

Match day 5 fixtures: Man City 3-2 Bayern Munich

CSKA Moskva 1-1 AS Roma

Man City (5 pts.) vs. AS Roma (5 pts.)

8:45 PM CET (11:45 AM PST) @ Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Italy

Manchester City continues to struggle in the Champions’ League, with only one win, two draws, and two losses, for a total of only five points in five matches so far. They will need to win against AS Roma to advance to the round of 16, because a tie will not save them in the hope that CSKA losses. AS Roma will also have to step it up but with the way they have been playing, we cannot expect much from them either. This game will end in a tie with AS Roma advancing.

Final Score: AS Roma 2-2 Man. City

CSKA Moskva (5 pts.) vs. FC Bayern (12 pts.)

8:45 PM CET (11:45 AM PST) @ Allianz Arena, Munich, Germany

The last time these two teams faced each other, it was Bayern Munich who emerged with the 1-0 win. Expect FC Bayern to do the same thing on Wednesday but with a bigger margin of victory. With 4 wins and the one loss, Bayern hopes to make it 5 wins and although they have already qualified, others are depending on them to win to advance. It should be an easy win for Bayern.

Final Score: FC Bayern 3-0 CSKA Moskva

Group F:

Match day 5 fixtures: PSG 3-1 Ajax

APOEL 0-4 FC Barcelona

APOEL (1 pt.) vs. Ajax (2pts.)

8:45 PM CET (11:45 AM PST) @ Amsterdam Arena, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Neither of these teams will qualify, as they had a tough group stage. Having to deal with both PSG and FC Barcelona, they combined for 1 win and 7 losses. The first time these two teams faced each other, the game ended in a draw, and the same should be expected here. If Ajax wins, they will go on to the Europa League round of 32.

Final Score: APOEL 0-0 Ajax

FC Barcelona (12pts.) vs. PSG (13pts.)

8:45 PM CET (11:45AM PST) @ Camp Nou, Barcelona, Spain

Both of these teams have already qualified to the next round of the Champions League but will be fighting for first place. The last time these teams faced off in September, PSG ended up with the surprising 3-2 win over the Catalans. Barcelona has been improving lately, and they will come to this game with the hopes of beating PSG this time. Barcelona will take this game and first place in the group.

Group G:

Match day 5 fixtures: Sporting 3-1 Maribor

Schalke 0-5 Chelsea FC

Chelsea (11pts.) vs. Sporting (7pts.)

8:45 PM CET (11:45 AM PST) @ Stamford Bridge, London, England

Chelsea has advanced to the next round after beating Schalke 5-0 back in November. They have been strong and only tied two games while winning their other three matches. Sporting has to win against Chelsea in order for them to advance, because if they do not and Schalke wins, there will be slim hopes for them in the Champions League. Chelsea’s form may not leave Sporting with much hope, unless Schalke loses or ties against Maribor.

Final Score: Chelsea 4-0 Sporting

Schalke (5pts.) vs. NK Maribor (3pts.)

8:45 PM CET (11:45AM PST) @ Stadion Ljudski vrt, Maribor, Slovenia

Schalke has been a bit disappointing in the Champions League, with only one win (against Sporting), two draws, and two losses. They will need to win this match against Maribor and hope that Sporting doesn’t win to be able to advance to the next round. This should be an easy win for Schalke.

 Group H:

Match day 5 fixtures: Shakhtar 0-1 Athletic

BATE 0-3 Porto

Porto (13pts.) vs. Shakhtar Donetsk (8pts.)

8:45 PM CET (11:45AM PST) @ Estadio do Dragão, Porto, Portugal

Porto has been great throughout the Champions League, winning four games out of the last five while drawing with Shakhtar, whom they will be facing this Wednesday. Both teams have already advanced to the next round and do not have to worry about winning or losing. This game will end up in another tie.

Final Score: Porto 1-1 Shakhtar Donetsk

BATE (3pts.) vs. Athletic Bilbao (4pts.)

8:45PM CET (11:45 AM PST) @ San Mames, Bilbao, Spain

There is not much to say about these two teams. Both have won only one game; BATE beating Shakhtar 7-0 back in mid October and Athletic Bilbao beating Shakhtar as well. Neither team will advance to the next round and Athletic will move on to the Europa League with a win over BATE.
