Mayweather versus McGregor is all gone. It is now time to focus on the “Real fight”, as it was dubbed by promoter Oscar De La Hoya. The boxing world has now locked its eyes in something totally different from the MMA-Boxing crossover we saw in August. Time has come for Saul Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin to meet in the ring. One can understand the reasons behind De La Hoya’s comments on the bout. Contrary to Money Vs Notorious, these are actually Two boxers ready for a fight. Not only that, but both fighters actually have something to fight for other than belts. Add to that, the fact that this fight could very well be the fight of year, all thanks to the fighters involved and, its place on the calendar. Boxing fans– Dieheart and casual ones– will tune in for a power showdown
Carbon Copies
Despite their different boxing esthetic and age gap, both fighters will look pretty similar. Alvarez proved to be able to mimic Golovkin’s brand of boxing. His last fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was merely used as a message for Golovkin and his team more than a challenge for the Guadalajara born pugilist. Due to both power and, style similarities, the fight will be decided by a single factor:
Mistakes
No boxer is perfect. Similarly, there are no perfect fights. Both boxers will look for the slightest mistake on their opponents’ end of things. We have all seen it before, Saul Alvarez tends to get a little “Trigger happy”, thus, opening counter punching opportunities which, Golovkin’s right hand will not let by. Golovkin is no strangers to mistakes either. Due to his often laid back posture, resting his back against the ropes, he has stopped some punches while doing that… With his face. And while that did not gave him much trouble against fighters like Willie Monroe Jr, or, Dominic Wade, Canelo has bigger, and more powerful fists than any of his previous adversaries. A well placed right hand by Alvarez can sack Triple G like never before.
More Than Meets The Eye
Although this will be a heavy hitters clash, there are more things going on outside the squared circle than in it. For both fighters, this fight means much more than just getting a W, knocking the light out of his respective rival or, getting another championship. This clash in Nevada is crucial for two reasons:
Knocking Out Doubters
Despite huge success ever since coming back from his defeat against Floyd Mayweather Jr, many, still do not buy into Alvarez being the best pound for pound boxer in the world. A fight like this one will prove his non believers wrong, while cementing his place as the best fighter in the world in the process. On the other hand, if things do not go as planned for Saul and his team, losing this fight could turn his career 360 degrees around. A defeat this upcoming September 16th could make all his progress and previous fights worthless in the eyes of the fans.
Gold Digging
Boxing is a business. Kazakhstan born Golovkin knows that. With few fights in US territory, it is time for GGG to take Las Vegas under his control. Gennady has the biggest chance of his career. The Mecca Of Boxing is his to take. Bigger contracts. Wider audiences, and of course, much more money. If Golovkin comes out victorious out of T Mobile Aren, don’t expect any more fights in Monte Carlo. He found his gold mine, now, he just needs to dig a little.
All Set
The press tour is done. Tickets have sold out a wile ago. All there is missing, is for both fighters to weight in this Friday. 160 lbs will not be an issue for them. Golovkin has been around that mark throughout all of his career and Alvarez has settled very well on that weight ever since his bout with Chavez Jr. This upcoming Saturday, the waiting will be over, time will come. Heavy leather will be thrown and, the fight of the year will not disappoint regardless of the outcome of it.
