According to league sources, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is poised to sign a $114 million contract with the Miami Dolphins with $60 million guaranteed, making him one of the most highly-paid players in the NFL.
Suh, who was top of NFL.com’s list of top free agents, averaged 47.8 tackles and 7.2 sacks per season during his time with the Detroit Lions. Although having gained a reputation for a hard-hitting physical style that has at times crossed the line and incurred fines, his ability as a run-stuffer and speed to chase down opposing players from behind is undeniable.
With other AFC East teams making key additions so far this offseason, most notably Buffalo trading for LeSean McCoy and New York trading for Brandon Marshall, the division is shaping up to be one of the most competitive ones in 2015, and the margin of error will be very slim. Dolphins coach Joe Philbin, who has been on the hot seat for a while, will be under even more pressure to lead the team on a playoff run now that their defense has been bolstered with this signing.
