Bastian Schweinsteiger Joins Manchester United

Manchester United agree terms with Bayern Munich to sign Bastian Schweinsteiger. The two clubs have confirmed a deal.

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that Schweinsteiger has told him that he would prefer to join Manchester United.

Also, a statement on United’s official website said: “Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Bayern Munich to sign midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, subject to a medical and personal terms. A further announcement will be made when the process is complete.”

“Bastian wants to do something new at the end of his career,” said Karl-Heinz Rummenigge at a news conference. “He asked that we meet his wishes.”

Bayern Munich’s CEO also said “My colleagues at Manchester United have been in touch. We’ve reached an agreement over a transfer.”

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge mentioned also that both player & Club CEO have said goodbye in good terms.

Germany boss Joachim Low said on the DFB’s official website: “Basti is an absolute leader and world-class player who can put his stamp on any team, including of course Manchester United.”

Schweinsteiger will reunite with Louis Van Gaal for the first time since his coaching spell from 2009 to 2011 at Bayern Munich. This will be Manchester United’s third signing of the summer, alongside Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian.

The German midfielder has won eight Bundesliga titles with Bayern, helped them regain the Champions League in 2013 and has scored 67 goals in 500 games for the club. He’s capped 111 games for the German National team, scoring 23 and won the 2014 World Cup.

He is subjected for a medical and to agree personal terms. He is also to receive a sizeable pay rise, but the transfer fee will diminish due to the year left in his contract at Bayern Munich
