Atletico Madrid continues to be in third place in La Liga table with 66 points, seven points behind second place Real Madrid and nine behind FC Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid came back from a 2-1 deficit to tie the game in the last couple minutes of the match against Malaga on Saturday afternoon. Antoine Griezmann was the hero for the Colchoneros as he scored both goals of the game and also got his 17th and 18th goals of the season. Diego Simeone’s men struggled in the pitch against Malaga and could not find the net one more time to take the three points home.
Fernando Torres scored an own goal in the 37th minute which tied the game and Samu Garcia was able to get his team the lead in the 71st minute. Griezmann savored his team from a defeat when he got his second goal of the match in the 78th minute and allowed Atletico Madrid to get one point on the table.
Griezmann was able to give his team the lead in the 25th minute when a mistake by the Malaga keeper, Kameni, was taken advantage by the frenchman. A throw in by Jesus Gamez from the left hand side was going straight to the Malaga goalkeeper and as Kameni raised to catch the ball, he missed it. Griezmann could not believe his luck when the ball landed in front of him and allowed him to poke the ball into an unguarded net.
An own goal by Fernando Torres changed the match in the 37th minute when a corner kick by midfielder Recio found its way in at the near post. Jan Oblak was unable to do enough to get across which followed by a slight deflection off Torres.
Samu gave his team the lead in the 71st minute when Nordin Amrabat took on three defenders. Amrabat controlled the ball and made a full 360 turn as he tried to pass it to his teammate. The ball instead deflected off an Atletico player which was recovered by Samu and was able to chip the ball over Oblak to make it 2-1.
In the 78th minute, Raul Jimenez was able to assist Griezmann in the goal when he managed to knock down a long ball into the path of Griezmann, who with one touch, was able to set himself before slamming a finish across Kameni and into the back of the net.
The game ended with both teams ending with one point in the table. Atletico Madrid will have to step it up this Tuesday as they face their city rivals for the UEFA Champions league Quarterfinals and then face Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday while Malaga hosts Real Madrid on Saturday as well and hope to hold Madrid as well to one point or even none at all.
The man of the match goes out to Griezmann for becoming the hero of the game and allowing his team to get one point.
