Manchester City forward Sergio “Kun” Aguero netted the only goal of the match in the second half to help Argentina in a 1-0 win vs. Uruguay in Group B of the Copa America.
The 27-year-old found his way on the end of a brilliant Pablo Zabaleta cross and headed past Fernando Muslera to give Argentina their first three points of the tournament.
In truth, it was dull first half between the two neighboring nations. Argentina controlled possession of the ball but struggled to break down the organized Uruguayan defense.
In the second half, Argentina made their possession count. Pablo Zabaleta received the ball from the right-wing before taking a small touch and unleashing a driven cross into the box. Kun Aguero was there to finish with a diving header to put things at 1-0.
Uruguay’s best chance of equalizing came through Abel Hernandez’s left foot. The Hull City man found himself with space and forced Sergio Romero to a superb save.
At the final whistle, it was a deserved win for Gerardo Martino’s men, who are close to reaching the next round of the competition.
Argentina’s final group stage game will be against Jamaica on Saturday, while Uruguay will test their chances against Paraguay.
